Blackamoor brooche “Marie” Doge Pietro III

A Venetian blackamoor in honor of Doge Pietro III Candiano. (The mask can be removed) The story goes that in 946 the Turkish pirates kidnapped many girls during a marriage ceremony in Venice but thanks to the stubbornness of the Doge they were chased and defeated near Caorle, thus freeing the girls. To celebrate this event the grand feast of the Marie is celebrated each year for the carnival. So here we are to present the jewel “Moretto” who has always represented the victory over the Turkish pirates.
