Brief history, where was the Moretto jewel of the Adriatic born? This type of Moor seems to originate in the Near East, worn by women on their ears. The continuous contacts of sailors with the lands of the East for their trade contributed to the introduction of dark brown earrings, also in Fiume and then in Venice. It probably happened before the Republic of Venice settled in Fiume, after more or less bloody battles (May 1508). The Moors like those reproduced here, had the shape of the Moor’s head fused together with the Muslim turban, in gold and enamel, and soon conquered the entire coast of Dalmatia. Only later was the crescent and star applied in some models, which refers to the domination of the Turks. Today the laboratories that make them are truly rare.
