History: in the Venetian dialect the word moeca has two meanings linked to tradition: it is associated both with the effigy of the winged lion of San Marco, symbol of the city, which rises from the waters (el leon en moeca), and with the local crab (common riparian crab Carcinus Mediterraneus) in the moulting phase also called fried soft crabs (fried moeche). This delicacy is also called the Venetian nugget.
